It is always refreshing to come back to Blogger and update the arrival of a new year...But, it always keeps me hinged on the fact that it is only on December 31st that I distinctly remember to put a blog...well...that is me...maybe, that is every one of us...The excitement we have when we make our list of New Year's resolutions never quite stays to see the fruit it gives. I prefer retrospection of the gone year than prediction of the one that's yet to come...If you ask me about the one gone, I might have tons to say. But what does the world have to say? The interesting part is of course our ever-gnawing curiosity...The driving factor in me is this thing (curiosity) which makes us human. I don't appreciate people pocking their noses into my business, nor does anyone. But the world is sure welcoming, ain't it? We talk about nature and yet never care about what nature might think of us when we talk about it. Well, it's because nature is not living. It's because we consider ourselves to be the divine spokespersons of everything in the world. Let us cherish it again, may I say? Last year, we had nothing but Russia-Ukraine to say. Now, we can add a bit of more spice into it with Israel-Palestine intensifying again. My words may seem comical, but we know deep in our hearts, that sarcasm can never hide the gruesome tragedy that we are gifting each other. There's a lot happening in Britain, I am not personally interested in the royal family...but you know one should say everything about the past year. The Queen's departure from this wonderful earth (wonderful apart from human atrocities and climate change), ushered in a new era. King Charles III was crowned, well...not to mention Prince Harry's retrospection of his family in "Spare". Well...it's nothing as compared to the WARRANT issued on Vladimir Putin by the International Criminal Court. Italy banned ChatGPT (good for them). Explosion of Titan which went after the Titanic. More and more it is....
It is incredibly challenging for me to organize the entire satire. But, as a space nerd, I don't find anything more interesting than India's astonishing and promising landing on the moon. It was a dream. A dream of millions of Indians it was. NASA announcing the Artemis II crew was received with well wishes from across the globe and all my hopes and prayers.
A New Year's resolution may seem boring, but it is not useless (though people may not actually use it). It gives us purpose. It drives me (or anyone thinking enough about it) cray-cray that we live. Why do we live? Why in this bluish sort of planet in this solar system? Are there more like us? Did we come out of the reverse black hole big bang theory as proposed? Why do we age? Why do we die? Why are we not exploring? Well...only exploration can answer these questions. It might drive me crazy, but it is that craziness, that little off the rocker feeling which gives the pulse. If curiosity is our pacemaker, our thoughts are our pulses. The paths we take are the Purkinje fibers. The thoughts travel through the paths, and it is those paths which make us discover and rediscover. Maybe we will find wormholes and travel through the vast, immense space. Like the Wright brothers felt, like Marie Curie felt, like Einstein felt when he discovered special relativity...let loose your imagination. It will open paths not taken. Maybe, those paths are the ones which define you tomorrow. It is not just a New Year that is opening before you in a couple of hours...it is a new beginning. Our pasts lie like a shadow. But our shadow obeys us. It is we who tread the path. It is we who decide whether it is the beginning or the end. Ask questions, find answers and live the life...find what life really is...Human race is here not for mere departure. It is to make a mark. A mark in this vast multitude of nothingness. It may not be nothing as we think it is. Adventures may await at each turn. It is just that we are not realizing it.
As Tolkien once said, "All those who wander are not lost".
Wander, wander far and wide...let the sun shine bright on you. Let the moon adore you. Let the stars follow you...Let the world beat and pulse at your tread. Take up your courage, take up your dreams, pack it in your baggage and leave for your paths. It is a new year. Beginners are blessed, because, they have desires as incandescent as the fire.
Hitch your wagon to the stars...and wait for the New Year.
Talk Soon,
Meenakshi. B. Krishnan
